PETALING JAYA: Northern Solar Holdings Bhd has entered into a RM20.5mil engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract with FDIGS Makmur Sdn Bhd to develop a 5 megawatts (MW) ground-mounted self-consumption solar photovoltaics system (SELCO).
This system will also be integrated with a 10MW-hours battery energy storage system (BESS) in Pahang.
"The project is expected to generate 6.68 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually, enabling FDIGS Makmur to achieve estimated savings of RM3.93mil per year while reducing reliance on conventional grid power," the company said in a statement.
FDIGS Makmur is based in Pahang and specialises in sustainable aquaculture, particularly tiger prawn farming and exports.
“This ground-mounted SELCO project with FDIGS Makmur demonstrates our ability to deliver integrated solar and storage solutions under the updated SELCO framework. For energy-intensive industries like aquaculture, the combination of solar and BESS is key to achieving significant cost savings, operational stability, and long-term sustainability,” Northern Solar managing director Lew Shoong Kai said.
"This contract adds to our growing order book and highlights Northern Solar’s readiness to capture new opportunities in ground-mounted SELCO and storage solutions. We see this as an exciting growth frontier complementing our core projects, while also building capacity for larger-scale initiatives in Malaysia’s renewable energy roadmap,” he added.
