KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with the 20th anniversary of Citi’s Global Community Day (GCD), Citi Malaysia reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to community engagement through a month-long series of volunteer initiatives across Kuala Lumpur and Penang in June.

In a statement, Citi said more than 900 Citi volunteers came to support the underserved communities, in collaboration with several local non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The initiatives included surplus food collection and distribution to charitable homes with Kechara Soup Kitchen Society Malaysia (KSK Society), academic tutoring in English and Mathematics for primary school students, and large-scale community clean-up efforts with Buku Jalanan Chow Kit (BJCK). Volunteers also supported Yayasan Chow Kit (YCK) in its relocation efforts, helping with logistics, packing, and the transition process.

Additionally, Citi volunteers facilitated food donation drives to benefit senior citizens and low-income households in collaboration with Penang Community Care and The Penang and Province Wellesley Silver Jubilee Home.

Citi Malaysia country officer Vikram Singh said the bank’s GCD initiatives have consistently made a meaningful impact over the past two decades, and this year was no exception.

“In celebration of this 20-year legacy, we are proud to partner with several inspiring local NGOs who share our commitment to social impact.

“I am incredibly proud of our Citi volunteers for stepping up with such heart and purpose throughout the month of June, in both Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Kindness is powerful and your service has created meaningful and lasting impact to the most needy sections of society.”

Citi recently marked its 65th anniversary in Malaysia, where it has been one of the leading foreign banks since 1959. With nearly 4,000 employees, Citi operates a full-service franchise offering corporate and commercial banking, treasury and trade solutions, markets and investor services, as well as transaction services through its Citi Solutions Centres.
