A flub over a dismissal at Maybank

Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) should be more forthcoming about the dismissal of the bank’s group chief financial officer (GCFO) Khalijah Ismail who was let go with immediate effect following an internal inquiry. There was a terse one-paragraph media statement from the bank sent out on Monday announcing the appointment of an acting GCFO and that was it.

Some context came from Khalijah, who was appointed GCFO in October 2021. She issued a statement at the same time saying that she strongly disagreed with the bank’s decision, as there were no specific reasons given for her termination, other than the bank having lost confidence in her.
