AirAsia carries 63 million passengers in 2024

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Aviation Group continued to recover from the depths of the Covid-19 pandemic and said it has now successfully recovered to 84% of pre-pandemic capacity levels.

The group noted its strong performance in 2024 was fueled by robust demand and capacity growth.

"In the fourth quarter of last year, we welcomed over 16 million passengers, reflecting a 9% year-on-year (y-o-y) increase and maintained a strong 88% load factor as demand caught up with the 10% y-o-y growth in capacity," AirAsia said in a statement.

AirAsia further said it carried over 63 million passengers with a load factor of 89% in the entire year.

"There was strong and sustained demand for our services. Fleet expansion had contributed significantly to success in 2024 with the active fleet growing to 205 aircraft out of a total of 224 aircraft, with the reactivation of 14 aircraft during the year," the group said.

The group said it inducted ten aircraft which comprised nine new A321neo and one used A320, during the year while returning two aircraft to lessors.

This, it said, had improved operational efficiency and capacity to support growing demand across its network.

AirAsia said it has sixteen non-active aircraft, with nine expected to enter service in the first quarter of 2025 and the remaining seven aircraft in the second quarter of 2025.

"With these aircraft now entering service, we will be able to fully utilise our fleet, reflecting the true capability of the airline and unlocking the potential for maximised revenue generation that was previously unattainable due to idle aircraft," it said.
