SHAH ALAM: Sime Darby Property Bhd’s second fully owned mall, the Elmina Lakeside Mall (ELM), has achieved a 99% occupancy rate to date.

Sharing the malls’ success, group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmir Merican shared that “ELM has exceeded our expectations from the outset, achieving an impressive 99% occupancy rate and attracting significant footfall, with over 180,000 visitors during the opening week and a sustained monthly average of 640,000”.

He stated that the launch of ELM and EOSM aligns with the group’s commitment to sustainable urban development and long-term value creation for stakeholders.

Spanning over 200,000 sq ft of net lettable area across 17.2 acres, ELM – which has been operational since August 2024 – generates average monthly sales of about RM20mil. To date, the mall has about 96 tenants, with 35% being food and beverage tenants and the remaining 65% being general tenants

Complementing the mall, the Elmina Outdoor Sculpture Museum (EOSM) is a dedicated space to showcase contemporary Malaysian artists and will soon expand to include regional and international talents.

“We believe this initiative will elevate the City of Elmina beyond residential and commercial centre into a destination for arts and culture.

Beyond creating a space for communities and for the celebration of art, EOSM will also serve as a platform for corporates and partners to commission artists and have their sculptures showcased here,” he said during a speech at the official launch of ELM and EOSM here.

The official launch of ELM and EOSM was officiated by Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Also present at the launch event were Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, Selangor Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, along with other dignitaries and state agency officials.

With a total gross development value of RM28bil, the City of Elmina spans 6,500 acres and integrates residential, commercial, and industrial developments.

To date, the township has completed about 12,800 residential homes, and is home to over 67,000 residents – it is expected to accommodate a population of 150,000 upon completion.

The township is also home to the Elmina Rainforest Knowledge Centre, Elmina Business Park, and Malaysia’s longest jogging and cycling track, spanning over 90 kilometres.

“These additions further position the City of Elmina as a leading township in Malaysia, driving economic activity, fostering community connections and enhancing urban living.

Every part of the township is designed for functionality, connectivity, and sustainability, making it a practical place to live and grow,” Azmir Merican added.
