KUALA LUMPUR: Electronic manufacturing services (EMS) provider EG Industries Bhd has inked a partnership with Japanese automation giant Yamaha Motor Co Ltd for EG’s upcoming Smart Lights-Out factory in Batu Kawan, Penang.

It said in a statement that the tripartite collaboration between EG Industries’ subsidiary SMT Technologies Sdn Bhd, Yamaha and its Malaysian distribution agency Premtronic Sdn Bhd is for the setting up of EG’s 5G automated intelligent SMT production lines.

"EG Industries estimates to invest up to RM80 million capital expenditure (capex) in phases over two years for the implementation and commissioning of the intelligent production lines.

"The partnership arrangement would be Yamaha’s first undertaking in Malaysia. Yamaha would be amply positioned to support EG Industries to implement the Lights-Out manufacturing using EG’s state-of-the-art 5G modules," it said.

EG Industries said targeted for commencement in the first half of 2024, the Smart Lights-Out manufacturing plant creates a fully networked environment that digitises material flow for autonomous manufacturing.

"This will be managed by a team of experts responsible for data management, production planning and quality control," it added.

EG Industries group chief executive officer Datuk Alex Kang said the partnership will transform EG into a provider of state-of-the-art 5G high-speed connectivity modules as Yamaha will collaborate with EG to use our own 5G technology in their future Lights-Out projects.

"This would eventually open up a new revenue stream to deploy EG’s 5G high-speed modules in other Lights-Out factory setups,” he said. - Bernama
