Boustead Naval to give full co-operation to ensure LCS project to continue

KUALA LUMPUR: Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd (BNS) will give its fullest co-operation to the authorities in implementing all the necessary measures to ensure that the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) project will complete in the interest of the national defence.

“We appreciate the findings as well as the recommendations given by Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the report, and we wholly support the authorities to take stern actions against any parties that were involved in the wrongdoing in the project,” BNS said in a statement Friday.

“The negotiation for LCS has started since 2011 and BNS is currently managed by a new leadership, and we are very committed to move forward with the project.

“During the current 6-month mobilisation period, we are working very hard in engaging and negotiating with the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and the vendors to finalise the forward planning of the project as desired and required by the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN),” it said.

BNS said it is also working very closely with the Special Governance Committee (Jawatankuasa Tadbir Urus Khas) co-chaired by the Secretary General of Treasury and Secretary General of the Defence Ministry, to ensure that the RMN will receive the LCSs which are very much needed assets.

Meanwhile, BNS has implemented various initiatives under the on-going transformation programme to strengthen our business and operations.

“Besides organisational restructuring, as well as recruiting new talents and calibrating existing resources, we have also enhanced the use of digitalisation, especially in the project management to eliminate leakages, and ensure integrity and transparency in carrying out the mandate given by the Government.

“In the heart of all these efforts is our utmost priority to beef up the strength of the RMN in safeguarding the national waters, while at the same time ensuring that the well-being and the interests of all the stakeholders of this project are protected,” it said.
