KLCI rises 0.42%; ringgit strengthens


KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia rebounded on Tuesday on bargain hunting activities, while the ringgit climbed marginally against the US dollar.

At 5pm, the FBM KLCI closed up 6.7 points, or 0.42% to 1,596.68.

On the broader market, gainers thumped losers 506 to 393 while 455 counters unchanged. About 2.25 billion shares, valued at RM1.92bil, changed hands.

At 5.30pm, the ringgit was quoted at 4.3555 against the greenback, appreciating 0.03%. The local unit opened higher against the US dollar this morning.

The local currency was up 0.37% against the euro at 4.6580. It rose 0.24% against the pound sterling at 5.5403 and fell 0.04% against the Singapore dollar at 3.1708.

On Bursa Malaysia, F&N surged RM1.24 to RM22.86, Nestle added 90 sen to RM133.40, Aeon Credit rose 28 sen to RM15.36 and Hong Leong Financial Group gained 22 sen to RM19.50.

PMB Technology-WA fell 20 sen to RM15, Sarawak Oil Palms eased 18 sen to RM6.48, PMB Technology lost 18 sen to RM18.18 and Hap Seng Plantations fell 16 sen to RM3.19.

Elsewhere in the region, Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed up 0.41% to 26,700.11 while South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.42%, to 2,668.31.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.33% to 19,934.71.

China’s CSI300 index closed 0.8% lower at 3,784.12, while the Shanghai Composite Index lost 1.4% to 2,886.43 points.
