No operational disruption from Westports container yard fire

KUALA LUMPUR: A fire that broke out at Westports Holdings Bhd's container yard at about 4.45pm yesterday was brought under control at about 3am today.

In a bourse filing, the group said the extent of the damage and the number of affected containers are still being determined.

However, it noted that there were no damages to the terminal operating equipment or infrastructure.

There were also no injuries arising from the incident.

"The terminal’s operations were unaffected during the entire duration of the incident as the fire was confined to a specific area within the Company’s extensive container yard facilities.

"The Fire and Rescue Department, The Royal Malaysian Police and the Company’s insurance claims surveyor will conduct a thorough investigation of the cause and source of the fire.

"The Company will also ascertain the extent of the affected declared cargoes. Westports’ insurance policies provide coverage for fire incidents," it said.
