Ex-Goldman banker got millions in 1MDB-linked kickbacks

"The defendant saw an opportunity to make millions of dollars by cheating, and he took it," Brent Wible, a lawyer with the U.S. Department of Justice, said in an opening statement on Monday. Ng (pic) has pleaded not guilty and his lawyer has said he is a "fall guy" for one of the biggest financial scandals in Wall Street history.

NEW YORK: Prosecutors on Monday accused a former Goldman Sachs banker of seeking to make millions of dollars laundering money looted from Malaysia's 1MDB sovereign wealth fund, at the outset of a trial that could shed light on the bank's response to warnings of corruption.

Roger Ng, Goldman's former head of investment banking in Malaysia, is charged with conspiring to launder money and to violate an anti-bribery law.
