Insight - Advancing women’s involvement in the Asean energy transition

A team of Yemeni women work at the Friends of the Environment Station, a solar panel station working since 2019 with UNDP funding and training, in Yemen's war torn region of Abs, northwest of the capital Sanaa, on March 9, 2021. - The station, one of three in the country but the only one run by an all-female crew, started with 20 houses. Today, it powers up 43 in several villages. The project has won the Ashden Awards for Humanitarian Energy that celebrates climate champions, and the UNDP is working to scale up the community business from three to 100 sites across the country. - AFP

THE Asean Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation, the framework of energy cooperation in the region, stipulates the aspirational targets of achieving 23% renewable energy share in the total primary energy supply and 32% energy intensity reduction by 2025.

Asean has the necessary targets, but unfortunately, the policies are still unable to speed up the transition to halt climate change.
