I LOVE working in Malaysia. Being a multicultural country also means plenty of festive celebrations and holidays. And as I write this, I can see and feel the buzz of families planning their Raya balik-kampung road trips to spend time with family and friends.
This brings me back to the 1980s; travelling back to Penang with my parents in the back of a Ford Cortina sandwiched between my three older siblings. The highway we know today hadn’t been built yet and we had to plan our route along the coastal roads from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh to Penang. From what I can recall, the trip was always peppered with toilet breaks, food stops and my personal favourite; visiting temples and kuils along the way.
