Govt receives over 20 proposals for third national car

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has received more than 20 proposals for the third national car project.

Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Dr Ong Kian Ming said on Wednesday the proposals ranged from individuals, private sector to government-linked companies.

He, however, declined to name the companies and if there are proposals from foreign companies.

“The revised National Automotive Policy (NAP) would include the development of the third national car project,” he said at the Kuala Lumpur International Automotive Conference (KLIAC) 2018 on Wednesday.

Ong reaffirmed that there would be no public funds and tax payer money involved in the third national car project.

On the revised NAP, he said, the government was targeting to unveil it by the first quarter of 2019.

The last time the policy was reviewed was in 2014, “it is timely to review it,” he said.
