Outlook for ports in Johor seen bright on Iskandar Malaysia development

JOHOR BARU: The prospects of port operations in Johor are bright in the coming years with progress and development taking place in the southernmost part of the state.

Johor Port Authority (JPA) general manager Muhammad Razif Ahmad said Iskandar Malaysia, which is located in southern Johor would continue to drive economic activities in the economic growth corridor.

He said Iskandar Malaysia would boost logistics and halal sectors in the southern part of Johor which offered good growth prospects for operators of Johor Port and Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP). “We together with other stakeholder want to develop and position Johor as one of the leading halal hubs in the region,’’ said Muhammad Razif.

He said on that note, JPA would sign a memorandum of understanding with Iskandar Halal Park, a RM250mil integrated industrial halal park in Pasir Gudang.

Muhammad Razif told reporters during the opening of the Johor Port Week 2018, by the Transport Ministry deputy secretary-general (Management) Datuk Jana Santhiran Muniayan yesterday. “The halal industry is a lucrative business with the world’s halal food segment estimated to be worth about US$2.6 trillion,’’ he said.
