Indonesia central bank says 'intervening' in FX market to defend rupiah


"We are intervening," Nanang Hendarsah, Bank Indonesia's head of monetary management told Reuters when asked about whether BI was in the currency market to defend the rupiah.

JAKARTA: Indonesia's central bank is intervening to defend the rupiah, a senior official said on Monday, after the currency fell 0.9 percent to 14,605, its weakest level since October 2015.

"We are intervening," Nanang Hendarsah, Bank Indonesia's head of monetary management told Reuters when asked about whether BI was in the currency market to defend the rupiah.

Indonesia's 10-year bond yield rose to 7.872 percent to the highest since July 23. Jakarta's main stock index fell more than 1.7 percent. - Reuters
