Construction of LRT3 to start in 1Q

KUALA LUMPUR: The construction of the RM9bil Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT 3) project will commence in the first quarter of next year, says Prasarana Malaysia Bhd.

Group Managing Director Azmi Abdul Aziz said the design for the 36-km alignment project was expected to be finalised by the fourth quarter of the year.

"As for land acquisition, we have identified the corridor but not the  alignment (as) we have to comply with the Land Acquisition Act requirement," he told reporters at a briefing on the LRT3 on Tuesday.

Explaining that the RM9bil is just the cost of construction, Azmi said Prasarana, however, has set aside some allocation that was sufficient for the land acquisition.

"We have not completed the actual budget for the alignment. We will have that once we start the process," he said while declining to disclose the actual  amount.

On the Project Delivery Partner (PDP), Azmi said to date seven companies had collected application forms which must be submitted in the first week of June.

Prasarana aims to award the project by July.

He said as PDP, the qualified company would receive a 6% fee of LRT 3's total contract value.

"Should the total cost of the project be less than or equal to the targeted cost, the PDP would be entitled to the full fee.

However, if the project cost is more than the targeted cost, the fee would be cut in accordance with the agreed formula," he explained.

The project is expected to be completed by Aug 31, 2020 and will serve over 2.0 million commuters along the allignment, which will connect Bandar Utama, Damansara and Johan Setia in Klang by 2025. - Bernama
