KUALA LUMPUR: Trailblazers often pave their own way towards success, and the new batch of Brandlaureate icons were chosen for their tenacity in charting their own paths to success.
They were honoured at the Brandlaureate Brand Icon Leadership Awards held in JW Marriot Hotel here yesterday night.
The theme chosen for the glittering ceremony was I Did It My Way.
“The theme celebrates the gathering of individuals who are brands in their own rights (and) remarkably successful in (their chosen) fields by simply doing it their way,” Brandlaureate president Dr KK Johan said in his speech at the ceremony.
Among those honoured as Brandlaureate icons this time included notable names in Malaysian public service such as Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng Mantan, the former governor of Sarawak, who received the Brandlaureate Legendary Brand Icon Leadership Award, and Tun Abdullah Ayub, the former chief secretary to the Government. The president of Football Association of Malaysia, His Highness Tengku Abdullah Ah-Haj Ibni Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah was honoured with the Brandlaureate Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Brand Icon Award.
Other icons included notable leaders in their respective fields such as Tan Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing, Tan Sri Rosemary Chow Poh Kheng, the first president of Wanita MCA, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, the Inspector General of Royal Malaysian Police, Habib Jewel’s Datuk Meer Sadik Habib, and Sunway Group’s Tan Sri Dr Ramon Navaratnam.
Dr KK Johan himself received the Icon of Icons Award for his controbutions to the branding industry in the country. All icons received a 24k gold-plated trophy of their own.
Around 500 guests attended the ceremony, including Star Publications Malaysia chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, songstress Yuna, who received the Grand Master Brand Icon Award, and various dignitaries.
