KUALA LUMPUR: With effect from Sept 1, the Malaysian government has enforced the Safeguard Act (Amendment) 2012 to prevent or remedy serious injuries caused by a surge in imports of certain products.
The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) said on Tuesday the amended Act allowed Malaysia to invoke safeguard measures based on the provisions in its bilateral or regional Free Trade Agreements.
