KUALA LUMPUR: Ewein Bhd's shares and warrants rose in active trade early Wednesday on expectations it could secure a sizeable contract from the proposed Penang undersea tunnel project.

At 9.33am, Ewein was up three sen to 96 sen. Its warrants, Ewein-WA jumped two sen to 19.9 sen with 2.99 million units done.

The FBM KLCI rose 3.61 points to 1,775.50. Turnover was 114.83 million shares valued at RM146.28mil. There were 168 gainers, 97 losers and 155 counters unchanged.

StarBiz reported Ewein, a Penang-based metal fabricator, was close to securing a sizeable contract.

This followed after the appointment of Datuk Zarul Ahmad Zulkifli as a director with immediate effect of Ewein's unit, Ewein Land Sdn Bhd.

Zarul is the chairman of Consortium Zenith BUCG Sdn Bhd, which in February this year was awarded by the Penang State Government to undertake the RM6.3bil Penang Road and Undersea Tunnel Project in the state.
