The Royal Mint of Malaysia Sdn Bhd will begin producing its own blanks for minting coins by the end of next month, making it the first company in Asean to do so.
Seremban-based Paradymn Sdn Bhd would supply the alloy sheets needed to make the blanks, group executive director Datuk Nik Mohd Amin Nik Abdul Majid said, adding that blanks were currently imported from South Korea and Europe.Apart from cutting cost, producing its own blanks would help the Royal Mint secure overseas tenders, which was a long-term plan of the company, he said after the launch of the Asian Fairy Bluebird commemorative coin at the Lost World of Tambun water theme park in Ipoh on Saturday.
