KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Liyana Durisic remained the best-performing Malaysian after the second round of the Maybank Championship 2026 despite carding a one-over 73 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) on Friday (Oct 30)

The 25-year-old, who fired a five-under 67 in the opening round yesterday, sank four birdies at the second, fourth, fifth and eighth holes but was held back by three bogeys at the first, sixth and 17th holes and a double bogey at the 14th to finish tied for 28th place with a two-day total of four-under 140.

"Throughout the round, I just kind of wasn't hitting the ball as well as I did yesterday, which is fine. I was just focusing on, like, missing it on the right spots.

"I had one bad hole, which was a double, and then the rest is just, like, minor mistakes. But other than that I’m still pretty happy with the way I played today,” she told reporters after her round.

Meanwhile, fellow Malaysian Mirabel Ting bounced back from a disappointing opening round to emerge as the best-performing local golfer in the second round after carding a four-under 68.

The impressive round saw Mirabel move up to tied 43rd place with a two-day total of one-under 143.

Mirabel said the strong support from the home crowd gave her extra motivation, especially after a difficult opening round yesterday.

"Even though I didn't have a good round yesterday, there were still so many people who came out to cheer and support me. It really meant a lot to me,” she said.

Looking ahead to the third round, Mirabel said she would focus on her game rather than putting too much pressure on herself to achieve a good result.

Another Malaysian, Natasha Oon, was placed 60th with a total one-over 145, while Kelly Tan was 65th with a total two-over 146 while Genevieve Ling is currently in 75th place with a score of six-over 150. -- BERNAMA
