BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: All four districts recorded good air quality at 9am Friday (Oct 30), with Brunei-Muara registering the highest Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading of 39.
According to the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), Belait recorded a PSI of 16, Tutong 23 and Temburong 50.
A PSI reading below 50 is classified as good, while readings of 51 to 100 indicate moderate air quality.
JASTRe, under the Ministry of Development, said it would continue monitoring air quality nationwide and issue updates five times daily at 7am, 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm during the haze period.
Since September 1, air quality reporting in Brunei has incorporated PM2.5 concentrations into the PSI.
The World Health Organisation defines PM2.5 as fine particulate matter measuring less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter.
These particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, potentially affecting the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
A PSI reading of 101 to 200 is classified as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are considered hazardous. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
