Time to celebrate - Laos prepares for end of Buddhist Lent, boat racing festival

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Lao officials are preparing for the end of Buddhist Lent and the traditional boat racing festival, scheduled for Oct. 25-27, with religious ceremonies, cultural performances and traditional boat races planned as part of the celebrations.

The event will feature alms-giving ceremonies, fireworks and light boat floating. The boat racing competition will take place on Oct. 27. As one of Laos' most vibrant traditional festivals, the celebration will illuminate the city with glowing boats and colorful lanterns, creating a festive atmosphere.

More than 1,000 personnel from the public security forces, national defence forces and youth volunteer groups will be deployed in Lao capital Vientiane to ensure public safety and maintain order during the festival.

Officials will implement round-the-clock duty rosters to maintain public order, ensure smooth traffic flow, prevent congestion and respond promptly to emergencies. The measures aim to ensure public safety, minimize traffic disruptions and protect residents and visitors throughout the festivities. -- Xinhua
