Tens of thousands of fans pack Hanoi stadium for BigBang's 20th-anniversary concert

HANOI (VnExpress - Vietnam News): Tens of thousands of fans in their best outfits poured into Hanoi's My Dinh National Stadium on Saturday (Oct 24) ahead of the first of BigBang's two sold-out concerts in the city.

At around 4 p.m., crowds of fans gathered at the stadium gates to swap their tickets for wristbands and pose for photos. The mood was cheerful, with no pushing or shoving.

K-Pop superstar boy band BigBang will perform for two nights in Hanoi as part of their World Tour 2026.

YG Entertainment, the agency managing BigBang, has officially announced the schedule for the band’s global tour, marking their 20th anniversary as a legendary K-pop act.

Hanoi will be one of the key stops on the tour, with two concerts set to take place at My Ding National Stadium on Oct 24 and 25.

BigBang’s World Tour 2026 will begin on Aug 21 at Goyang Stadium in South Korea before travelling across multiple countries and territories in Asia and Europe. It is expected to conclude on Feb 28, 2027, in Taiwan, China, after travelling to France, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia and Vietnam.

BigBang drew widespread attention with the release of the World Tour 2026 poster in April, marking a large-scale reunion in celebration of their 20th anniversary. The tour is considered one of the most highly anticipated K-pop music events of the coming year.

According to the announcement on stage at Coachella in April, the lineup for this tour will feature three members: G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung. After years focusing on individual activities, the trio’s return has been warmly welcomed by fans around the world, including Vietnam.

Many fans expressed enthusiasm at the prospect of witnessing BigBang’s full-scale stage production for the first time as part of a global tour.

BigBang debuted in 2006 with five members: Seungri, G-Dragon, Taeyang, T.O.P and Daesung. All five could sing, write music and dance, and the group worked mainly in hip-hop and R&B.

The group regularly won Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year at major Asian music awards, and in the early 2010s its success reached the U.S. In 2015, BigBang released "MADE" to wide acclaim.

Four of the members began mandatory military service in 2017 and 2018, and "Flower Road", released in 2018, was the group's last release with all five.

BigBang returned in 2022 as a four-piece. Seungri had quit show business in 2019 amid the Burning Sun nightclub scandal and was sentenced in August 2021 to three years in prison, a term later cut to 18 months on appeal.

T.O.P confirmed in 2023 that he had also left. In 2024, G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung caused a stir by reuniting as a trio at the MAMA Awards, and the same lineup is now on a world tour marking 20 years since the band's debut. -- VnExpress/Vietnam News
