BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN; Air quality remained good across all four districts in Brunei Darussalam on Wednesday morning following recent rainfall that helped subdue haze conditions.
The Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) recorded Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) readings of 21 in Brunei-Muara, 30 in Belait, eight in Temburong and 24 in Tutong at 9am.
All readings were below 50, indicating good air quality.
The public is also urged to avoid open burning during the dry period. Bush or forest fires should be reported immediately to the Fire and Rescue Department at 995, while complaints about open burning can be made through the Darussalam Hotline 123.
Since September 1, JASTRe has incorporated fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations into PSI reporting. These particles, measuring less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter, can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, affecting cardiovascular and respiratory health.
PSI updates are issued at 7am, 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm during the hazy period. - Borneu Bulletin/ANN
