Brunei coach expects thriller against JDT in FA Cup semis

PETALING JAYA: Brunei head coach Jamie McAllister hopes to see another entertaining match at the Hassanal Boliah National Stadium when his men take on giants Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in the FA Cup semi-finals.

After a thrilling five-goal thriller against Kuching City at home that saw Brunei come from behind and win 3-2 in the Super League on Sunday, the Wasps will reset and host the Southern Tigers in the semi-final first-leg fixture on Friday.

McAllister said he hopes the clash with powerhouse JDT will be another thriller, especially after giving the fans their first win at home this season against Kuching.

“Hopefully it’s a game like that; really entertaining with both teams attacking and defending properly,” said the former Scottish defender.

“It was a proper game of football against a good team like Kuching, and probably it will be the same against Johor.”

The Scotsman noted that the team need to patch up gaps in their defensive line, as holding JDT to a clean sheet will be crucial heading into the second leg in Johor.

“We just got to tighten up a few things defensively, especially against the top team in the league.

“We must do that and have that clean sheet mentality and try to stay in the tie into the second leg,” he said.

Meanwhile, McAllister also praised his team for their performance so far this season, with the team currently in fourth place in the Super League.

“We have a good group of players who are honest and hardworking with quality. We will keep growing.

“Of course, there will be bumps in the road; it won’t be smooth. But we started well and have to maintain that,” he said.

While Brunei host JDT, Selangor will face Kuching at the Petaling Jaya Stadium in the other semi-final tie.
