YANGON: The Yangon Region government has established 626 heat shelters across 45 townships in 14 districts, capable of accommodating over 150,000 residents to mitigate the impacts of "Super El Niño," according to regional minister Nay Lin Tun.

Speaking at the regional parliament session on October 19, the minister explained that the weather phenomenon could bring erratic rainfall, abnormal storm activity, extreme heat and severe water scarcity.

In response, authorities have developed emergency water distribution plans and healthcare services based on expert recommendations from a recent municipal workshop to protect vulnerable communities from shortages and heat-related illnesses. - Eleven Media/ANN
