JAKARTA: United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed appreciation for Indonesia's foreign policy leadership and efforts to promote global peace and assist Palestinians.
The Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat said Guterres conveyed his appreciation during a meeting at President Prabowo Subianto’s private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java on Sunda (Oct 18).
In a statement, the Presidential Secretariat said the meeting also covered strategic issues and efforts to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and the UN in addressing global challenges.
"The meeting was part of efforts to strengthen dialogue and partnership between Indonesia and the UN, while underscoring the importance of international cooperation in promoting peace, stability and resolving various global issues through a multilateral approach,” the statement read.
Guterres arrived in Jakarta on Saturday evening for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening Indonesia-UN cooperation.
The visit also provided an opportunity for Guterres to bid farewell to Prabowo ahead of the conclusion of his tenure as UN Secretary-General in December.
As part of his official programme, Guterres is scheduled to visit Indonesia's military peacekeeping centre in Bogor and pay tribute to 50 Indonesian peacekeepers who lost their lives while serving in UN missions.
The two leaders previously held bilateral talks at the UN headquarters in New York on Sept 22, 2025, following Prabowo's address at a high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian question and implementation of the two-state solution. - Bernama
