BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Air quality remained moderate across all four districts in Brunei Darussalam as of 9am Tuesday (Oct 13), according to the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe).

Tutong recorded a Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading of 54, followed by Brunei-Muara at 55, Belait at 60 and Temburong at 62.

A PSI reading of 51 to 100 indicates moderate air quality, while readings below 50 are classified as good. Levels of 101 to 200 are considered unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.

Since September 1, JASTRe has incorporated fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations into Brunei’s PSI reporting.

PM2.5 refers to fine suspended particles measuring less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter, which can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, potentially affecting cardiovascular and respiratory health, according to the World Health Organization.

JASTRe said it would continue monitoring air quality nationwide and issue PSI updates at 7am, 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm during the hazy period. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
