Thundershowers alert in 36 Thai provinces and Bangkok on October 3


BANGKOK; The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecast thundershowers in 36 provinces as well as Bangkok and surrounding areas on Saturday (October 3, 2026).

Upper Thailand faces gusty winds and possible lightning, while isolated heavy rain is expected in the lower South. The TMD expects thundershowers over 40% of Bangkok and surrounding areas during the forecast period, which runs from 6am on October 3 to 6am on October 4. Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain alert to dangers from thundershowers, strong gusts and locally heavy rainfall.

The TMD attributed the conditions to a weak south-westerly monsoon covering the Andaman Sea and Thailand, alongside southerly winds over the lower Northeast, the East and the Gulf of Thailand.

Andaman Sea and Gulf face waves above 2 metres in thundershowers

Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand could exceed 2 metres in areas experiencing thundershowers, according to the TMD. Boat operators should check their routes, navigate cautiously and avoid sailing through thundershowers.

Southern west coast has highest forecast rain coverage at 60%

The TMD forecasts thundershowers over 60% of the southern west coast, the highest regional coverage in the 24-hour outlook. Isolated heavy rain is expected in Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi and Trang.

The TMD’s regional forecasts for October 3–4

North: The TMD forecasts thundershowers over 20% of the region, mainly in Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit and Phetchabun. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 22–27°C and maximum temperatures at 34–38°C, with south-westerly winds of 10–15km/h.

Northeast: Thundershowers are forecast over 30% of the region, with isolated gusty winds, mainly in Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Udon Thani, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram and Ubon Ratchathani, according to the TMD. Minimum temperatures are expected at 23–26°C and maximum temperatures at 34–36°C, with southerly winds of 10–15km/h.

Central region: The TMD expects thundershowers over 40% of the region, with isolated gusty winds, mainly in Lop Buri, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Nakhon Pathom. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 23–27°C and maximum temperatures at 35–37°C, with southerly winds of 10–15km/h.

East: The TMD forecasts thundershowers over 40% of the region, with isolated gusty winds, mainly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat. Minimum temperatures are expected at 24–27°C and maximum temperatures at 33–35°C, with southerly winds of 10–30km/h; waves are forecast below 1 metre, rising above 2 metres in thundershowers.

South, east coast: Thundershowers are forecast over 40% of the region, with isolated heavy rain in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Yala and Narathiwat, according to the TMD. Minimum temperatures are expected at 23–25°C and maximum temperatures at 33–35°C, with westerly winds of 10–30km/h; waves are forecast below 1 metre, rising above 2 metres in thundershowers.

South, west coast: The TMD expects thundershowers over 60% of the region, with isolated heavy rain in Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi and Trang. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 23–26°C and maximum temperatures at 31–34°C, with westerly winds of 15–30km/h; waves are expected to be about 1 metre high, rising above 2 metres in thundershowers.

Bangkok and surrounding areas: The TMD forecasts thundershowers over 40% of the area, with isolated gusty winds. Minimum temperatures are expected at 26–28°C and maximum temperatures at 34–36°C, with southerly winds of 10–15km/h.

October 4–7 rain spell to reach North and Northeast first

Upper Thailand is forecast to experience thundershowers, gusty winds and isolated heavy rain during October 4–7, according to the TMD. The weather is expected to affect the North and Northeast first, before extending to the Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding areas, and the East.

The TMD urged residents in those regions to watch for dangers from thundershowers and gusty winds during the coming spell. Boat operators in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea should also check routes, navigate with caution and avoid areas experiencing thundershowers. - Nation/ANN
