SABAE, Fukui, Japan: Nishiyama Zoo welcomed newborn twin red pandas born in July. The pair are getting lots of rest at the zoo in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture.

The zoo’s total number of red pandas as of late August stands at 12.

The newborn cubs are scheduled for their public debut on Oct.17.

The twins, both female, were born on July 8. Their six-year-old mother, Akebi, arrived from the Yagiyama Zoological Park in Sendai in January. She became a first-time mother after mating with an eight-year-old male named Kanta.

The cubs are spending most of their time in a box inside their sleeping quarters and are doing well as they grow, according to the zoo. - The Japan News/ANN
