A Hong Kong man who allegedly installed pinhole cameras in changing rooms at a branch of a popular gym chain has been released on bail pending further police investigation to identify potential victims.
Construction site foreman Fung Kwok-wang, 34, was not required to answer a count of voyeurism during his first appearance at Sha Tin Court on Tuesday, as prosecutors sought an eight-week adjournment for further police inquiries.
Acting Principal Magistrate Cheang Kei-hong granted the defendant HK$2,000 (US$255) bail on condition that he remain in Hong Kong, avoid contact with prosecution witnesses and stay away from the 24/7 Fitness branch on Lek Yuen Street in Sha Tin.
The case will be heard again on November 25.
The fitness centre reported the case to police on Friday after a customer spotted a small camera secured with black tape in the false ceiling of a changing room.
Police combed through the premises and seized three pinhole cameras and three 12GB memory cards from three of the four individual unisex changing rooms.
Officers subsequently recovered multiple video clips filmed between September 23 and 25. Fung was arrested shortly after 9pm on Sunday.
The Sha Tin district investigation team is handling the case.
Voyeurism is punishable by up to five years in prison, which is capped at two years when the case is heard by a magistrate.
