PETALING JAYA: The national men’s squash team delivered another gold medal for Malaysia at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after they beat Pakistan in the final on Friday (Oct 2).
Malaysia, who last won gold at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games, clinched the title after knocking out Pakistan 2-0 at the Kinjo Futo Arena.
It was the contingent's ninth gold and it equalled Malaysia's best ever achievemt in Asiad at the 2010 Guangzhou edition.
C. Ameeshenraj was first up for Malaysia against Nasir Iqbal as he came from behind to win 8-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-4 in 31 minutes to get the first point.
Men’s individual event gold medallist Ng Eain Yow then took to the court to face Noor Zaman.
The match went on for five sets, but Eain Yow came through to deliver 11-8, 6-11, 7-11, 11-4, 11-5 in 46 minutes to seal the tie.
Malaysia’s squash camp have now won four gold medals, adding with the women’s team event triumph and S. Sivasangari’s win in the women’s individual event.
Malaysia also have won through Azizulhasni Awang (cycling), sepak takraw (men's regu), e-sport and karate (two).
