HYDERABAD, Pakistan: Three Pakistanis were among the five crew members who died during an operation to free a Palau-flagged oil tanker off the coast of Somalia, according to Pakistan's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday (Sept 30).

Another three Pakistani nationals were injured.

"The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital and are receiving medical care.

"The surviving crew members of MT Honour 25 have been brought safely ashore at Bandar Beyla," the ministry said in a statement.

The tanker was hijacked in April around 30 nautical miles off Puntland's coast while carrying 18,500 barrels of oil to Mogadishu.

On Tuesday, media reported that pirates killed five crew members, including one Indian and one national of Myanmar before security forces recovered the MT Honour 25 vessel. - Bernama
