Pakistan confirms 5th polio case of 2026

ISLAMABAD, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan has confirmed its fifth polio case of 2026, with the latest case reported in the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the country's polio eradication program said Tuesday.

Pakistan recorded 31 polio cases in 2025, compared with an estimated 20,000 cases in the early 1990s. The country has conducted four large-scale vaccination campaigns this year, protecting more than 45 million children.

Pakistani authorities urged parents and caregivers to ensure children receive all recommended polio vaccine doses and called for continued surveillance and vaccination efforts nationwide.
