PHNOM PENH: The Chinese embassy in Phnom Penh hosted a grand reception at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra on Sept 21 to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The event saw Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn and Chinese ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin reaffirm the longstanding ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Wang said China and Cambodia were “true friends and good partners” that shared both hardship and prosperity, while maintaining deep mutual trust. He described the relationship as an “ironclad friendship” that had grown stronger over the years.
“China firmly supports Cambodia in choosing its own development path and will remain one of Cambodia’s most trusted partners in its development process,” he noted.
He also said China was ready to work with Cambodia to implement strategic consensus reached by the two countries’ leaders and advance cooperation in priority areas, including the “Fish and Rice Corridor” and “Industrial Corridor”. He said both sides would continue building the Cambodia-China relationship as a model of a community with a shared future for humanity.

Sokhonn noted that 2026 marked the 70th anniversary of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk’s first visit to China, which he described as a historic milestone that opened a new chapter in Cambodia-China relations.
He said successive generations of leaders had nurtured the relationship into an “ironclad friendship” and comprehensive strategic partnership, based on mutual respect, trust and support for each other’s core interests and sovereignty.
Sokhonn also thanked China for its continued support for Cambodia’s development, particularly in infrastructure, energy, transport and water-resource management.
He said bilateral trade had risen from more than US$15 billion in 2024 to over $19 billion in 2025, while Chinese investment in Cambodia had also continued to grow.
He expressed confidence that the two countries would further strengthen their “all-weather” community with a shared future and contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
