BACOLOD CITY: Police are investigating the shooting of an elderly American and his Filipino wife inside their home in Purok Katubhan, Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City early Wednesday (Sept 2).
Probers are looking into robbery as a possible motive.
The victims were identified as Mark Duell, 72, and Elsie Duell, 71, both of whom sustained gunshot wounds in an attack that occurred around 4am, the police reported.
The Dumaguete City Police Station received a 911 call reporting the incident at approximately 6.08am.
The couple’s 53-year-old stay-in caretaker told investigators that she woke up around 4am to find an unidentified male intruder inside the house.
The suspect was allegedly wearing a bonnet and carrying a firearm.
The helper reportedly said the gunman barged into the maid’s quarters and, at gunpoint, asked where the couple kept their money.
Authorities have requested the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) to study the crime scene.
