Soviet weapons from Indonesia's independence struggle displayed in Jakarta

JAKARTA: (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) An exhibition of Soviet weapons that played a vital role in Indonesia's struggle to maintain its territorial integrity has opened at the Satria Mandala military museum in Jakarta, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

The historical and multimedia exhibition "Weapons of Independence,” was organised by the Russian House in Jakarta jointly with the representative office of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation.

"It is dedicated to the history of Russian-Indonesian relations and the development of military-technical cooperation between the two countries.

"I hope that the ‘Weapons of Independence’ exhibition will increase public interest in the history of relations between Russia and Indonesia, strengthen the friendship between our countries, and become a bridge connecting the past and the future,” Colonel Eko Budianto, head of the research and development department at the historical centre of the Indonesian armed forces, said.

The exhibition features archival photographs of meetings and visits between the leaders of the two countries, historical documents and models of Soviet military equipment.

A separate section is dedicated to the visit of Indonesia's first president, Sukarno, to Sverdlovsk in 1956.

In the multimedia zone, archival photographs have been brought to life using artificial intelligence. - Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti
