YANGON: President U Min Aung Hlaing received a delegation led by Cardinal Charles Bo, President of the Myanmar Catholic Bishops’ Conference, at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday (Aug 5).
During the meeting, issues related to religious freedom, national peace, and social harmony were discussed.
Cardinal Charles Bo, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Myanmar, expressed his joy and pride at the opportunity to meet with the President and his recognition of his efforts to fulfill his duties as a state despite the challenges.
He also expressed his gratitude for the land provided for the construction of a Catholic church in Naypyidaw and wished the President and all the people of Myanmar peace and prosperity.
The President clarified that all religions are allowed to practice freely in Myanmar and there is no discrimination based on religion.
In addition, land has been allocated for the construction of places of worship for all religions in Naypyidaw.
The President continued by saying that the country continues to walk the path of multi-party democracy and believes that peace can only be achieved through dialogue, and that political demands should only be resolved through political means.
In addition, the President appealed to religious leaders to continue to support the teachings of religion in order to cultivate the people's thoughts and feelings, promote national reconciliation, and promote peace and prosperity in the country.
