KUALA BELAIT: Firefighters rescued an unconscious man who was trapped beneath an overturned vehicle following a road accident in Bukit Sawat on Wednesday.
The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) received an emergency call about the accident along Jalan Kandul at around midday.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that a four-wheel-drive vehicle had veered off the road and overturned in a bushy area. The driver was unconscious and trapped beneath the vehicle.
Firefighters launched a rescue operation using the winch mounted on a WRL/40 fire appliance to lift the vehicle. The driver was extricated within 15 minutes and handed over to the Royal Brunei Police Force for further action.
A male passenger had managed to free himself from the vehicle before firefighters arrived. He was handed over to paramedics and taken to Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait for medical treatment.
A team of six firefighters, led by Deputy Station Officer Mohd Said bin Abdullah, attended the scene with two fire engines from Sungai Liang Fire Station.
The FRD advised the public to exercise caution when driving, particularly along isolated or challenging roads, and to ensure that vehicles are properly maintained to safeguard their own safety and that of other road users.
