MANILA: Vice President Sara Duterte (pic) is out of the country until the end of the month while her impeachment trial is ongoing, Malacanang confirmed Tuesday (July 21).
At a press briefing, Palace press officer Claire Castro said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, through the Office of the Executive Secretary, approved Duterte’s foreign trip in several countries from July 16 to 31.
Castro said Duterte’s “personal trip” itinerary includes Qatar, Germany, the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and the Netherlands.
Duterte is currently in The Hague, where his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, has been detained since March last year while awaiting his trial by the International Criminal Court on Nov. 30.
In March 2025, the former president was arrested by Philippine authorities following an order from the ICC over crimes against humanity charges for being an indirect co-perpetrator in the extrajudicial killings during the anti-drug and anti-criminal campaigns from 2011 to 2019, when he served as Davao City mayor and later on as President.
Defence spokesperson lawyer Michael Poa shared Duterte’s current whereabouts during a press conference before Tuesday’s trial proper.
