LEGAZPI CITY: A 15-year-old student was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) after teachers found him carrying a.45-calibre pistol inside a school in Tinambac, Camarines Sur, on Wednesday (July 15).
Police Col Tyrone Razon Dotimas, Officer-in-Charge of the Camarines Sur police provincial office, said a female student reported her fellow student to her class adviser, who seized a Para-Ordnance.45-calibre pistol, a magazine, and three live rounds of ammunition from the student with the help of another teacher.
The student was released to responding police, Dotimas told the Inquirer in a text message.
He said the firearm had allegedly been given to the student by a friend, who claimed to have secretly taken it from his father’s house.
He said the Civil Security Unit had been asked to verify the firearm’s registration and determine its registered owner.
The pistol and ammunition were placed under police custody while authorities processed the case under Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The minor was turned over to the DSWD for appropriate intervention in accordance with Republic Act No. 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, as amended. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
