JAKARTA (Reuters): Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto said on Friday that his country aims to increase domestic sugarcane and bioethanol production and expedite replanting.

* Prabowo ordered the agriculture ministry to speed up sugarcane replanting programmes for completion in the next two years from the previous target of within four years.

* The size of Indonesia's sugarcane plantations was about 540,000 hectares (1.33 million acres) in 2025, data from the agriculture ministry shows.

* The president also aims to have at least 30 new bioethanol plants to produce enough supply for ethanol-blended fuel programmes.

* Indonesia has a plan to mix non-subsidised gasoline with at least 5% ethanol in Java, the country's most populated island, over the 2026-2027 period, and raise the proportion to 10% by 2028.
