HANOI: Vietnamese authorities uncovered nearly 68,000 cases involving smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit production and trading, as well as intellectual property (IP) rights infringement in the first half of 2026, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.
Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc said such offences remained widespread and had become increasingly sophisticated, affecting business activities, public health and consumer confidence.
Pham, who is also head of the National Steering Committee for Combating Smuggling, Commercial Fraud and Counterfeit Goods, made the remarks at a national online conference on July 7 to review the committee’s performance in the first six months of the year and set out tasks for the second half.
He said the Government, the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee had issued a series of directives to strengthen efforts against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and IP violations.
These include Official Dispatch No 38/CD-TTg on intensifying the fight against IP infringement.
According to Pham, the Ministry of Public Security, together with ministries, sectors and localities, has launched nationwide crackdowns, uncovering multiple cases involving counterfeit goods, imitation products and IP violations.
He added that the United States (US) had also acknowledged Vietnam’s proactive efforts in addressing the issue. - Bernama-VNA
