JAKARTA (Bernama): Indonesia has urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to move beyond statements of condemnation and take concrete, sustained action to hold Israel accountable for its actions against Palestinians.
Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta made the call at the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Aug 27, according to a Foreign Ministry statement on Sunday.
Anis warned that the escalating crisis in West Asia was increasingly testing the OIC’s authority and ability to remain effective.
"The OIC must maximise its capabilities and mechanisms to hold Israel accountable for its various crimes and categorise acts of violence by illegal settlers as acts of terrorism,” he said.
Anis, who represented Foreign Minister Sugiono at the meeting, said the impact of the regional conflict had spread far beyond West Asia, while Israel was exploiting the OIC’s divided attention to continue its actions against Palestinians.
He highlighted Israel’s continued violations of international law, including the expansion of illegal settlements, annexation of Palestinian land and killings of Palestinians.-- BERNAMA
