Over 800 killed, 2,051 injured in road accidents in Myanmar in first five months of 2026

YANGON: A total of 813 people were killed and 2,051 people injured in 1,447 road accidents in Myanmar in the first five months of 2026, according to the Road Transport Administration Department (RTAD) on Tuesday (June 30).

Between January and May this year, Yangon region reported the highest number of deaths from road accidents at 165, followed by Bago region and Mandalay region with 106 deaths each, the RTAD's data showed.

During the same period in 2025, 782 people were killed and 2,144 injured in 1,455 road accidents across the country, the RTAD's figures showed.

Official data showed that a total of 1,735 people were killed and 4,676 others injured in 3,348 road accidents across the country in the whole year of 2025. - Xinhua
