VIENTIANE: A joint meeting between the government of Laos and the Standing Committee of the National Assembly (NA) for the first session of 2026 was held in the Lao capital Vientiane on Thursday (July 2) to consult, exchange views, and build consensus on key national issues.

The meeting was co-chaired by Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone (pic) and Lao National Assembly (NA) President Saysomphone Phomvihane, with the participation of deputy prime ministers, senior government officials, and relevant representatives, according to a Lao People's Army News report on Thursday.

The meeting marked the first joint session between the government's 10th-term cabinet and the Standing Committee of the NA's 10th legislature.

Discussions focused on enhancing the efficiency of state administration and socio-economic management through improved legal and regulatory measures. The participants also discussed ways to strengthen political stability, maintain social peace, sustain economic growth, and improve the living standards of the country's multi-ethnic population.

Key agenda items included a review of the implementation of the national socio-economic development plan, state budget, and monetary plan for the first half of 2026, as well as priorities for the second half of the year. Participants also discussed the draft national rural development and poverty reduction agenda, measures to promote electric vehicle and renewable energy use, and future directions for mineral sector development.

Participants were also encouraged to provide focused and constructive feedback, identify root causes of issues, and suggest clear measures for improvement.
