PETALING JAYA: Low Zi Yu ensured Malaysia would not leave the Asian Junior Championships in Yatsushiro, Kyushu empty-handed after reaching the semi-finals in both the mixed doubles and girls' doubles on Friday (July 3).
Playing in the quarter-finals at the Yatsushiro City General Gymnasium, Zi Yu first teamed up with Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal to beat Indonesia's Moses Simanjuntak-Reya Yulianti 19-21, 21-15, 21-9.
The victory assured Zi Yu-Redzuan of at least a bronze medal.
Zi Yu then returned to court alongside Genevie Lim in the girls' doubles and defeated China's Shi Sichen-Xiang Yujin 21-12, 21-19 in 41 minutes to seal another semi-final berth.
Zi Yu-Genevie will next face either Indonesia's Atresia Candani-Aurelia Putri or Japan's Aoi Banno-Yuzu Ueno for a place in the final.
In the mixed doubles, Zi Yu-Redzuan will take on Taiwan's Lin Sheng-min-Sun Liang-ching.
There was disappointment in the boys' singles, however, as eighth seed Kong Wei Xiang went down 19-21, 20-22 to Indonesia's Fardhan Joe in the quarter-finals.
Tew Wei Jie also bowed out after losing 16-21, 21-19, 21-23 to China's Hong Tianyue.
