BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested 12 local suspects, aged between 29 and 67, during the continued Operasi Mule, following a series of enforcement raids conducted between June 19 and 24, 2026.
The operation targeted individuals believed to be involved in drug trafficking activities linked to the operation’s principal syndicate.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of 19.83 grammes of methamphetamine, locally known as Syabu. The NCB also seized drug packaging equipment such as small transparent plastic packets, cut drinking straws, scissors, and digital weighing scales, as well as drug abuse paraphernalia.
One of the suspects, a 53-year-old local man, was identified as a key customer of the mastermind behind Operasi Mule.
He is believed to have been involved in drug trafficking activities for more than 15 years and was previously convicted in 2002, when he was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment and 15 strokes of the whip.
Meanwhile, two of the suspects arrested in the follow-up operation, aged 28 and 29 respectively, were identified as runners who allegedly were offered services to smuggle drugs and other prohibited items into the country.
Their activities are believed to have been motivated by the prospect of earning easy financial rewards or additional income.
Both individuals will also be investigated under Section 10 of the Misuse of Drugs Act (Chapter 27) for abetting offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act (Chapter 27).
The NCB emphasised that every individual involved in the illicit drug trade, whether as a trafficker or a runner, forms part of a criminal network that destroys lives, undermines family institutions, and poses a serious threat to the nation’s safety and security.
The NCB also iterated that any individual involved in drug-related criminal activities will not escape legal action, regardless of their role, even if it is limited to that of a drug runner. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
