BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A giant Brunei Darussalam national flag was hoisted Wednesday (July 1) morning at the open area of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital, marking the start of celebrations for the 80th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The ceremony for the receiving and presentation of the national flag, measuring 3.7 metres by 7.5 metres, was officiated by Guest of Honour, Coordinating Minister for Social and Manpower Policies and Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Setia Awang Ahmaddin Abdul Rahman.
The ceremony continued with the presentation of Brunei Darussalam national flags, measuring 2.5 metres by 1.2 metres, along with commemorative posters for His Majesty’s 80th Birthday Celebration to the acting Brunei-Muara, Belait, Tutong and Temburong district officers.

Commemorative posters were also presented to representatives from various ministries.
Similar national flag hoisting ceremonies were held simultaneously across the other districts.
Later in the afternoon, national flags were presented to penghulus mukim in their respective districts.
The hoisting of the national flag marks the commencement of the official display of personal flags by Pengiran-Pengiran and individuals who have been conferred honorary titles.
Members of the public are also encouraged to fly the national flag at government and private buildings, commercial premises and other establishments nationwide in conjunction with His Majesty’s 80th Birthday Celebration. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
